Calling all environmentalists! All those who care about Mother Nature!
We should kick off that old habit and start recycling!
Join us on 24th OCT 09 at Taylor's University College Main Campus to help 350.org help you make a change for OUR ENVIRONMENT!
All recyclables will go to PASS, Persatuan Amal Seri Sinar,an organisation that collects recyclable items for CHARITY.
Everyone is welcomed to attend the event.
Those who are not sure of which materials go into which category
or have difficulty getting the recyclables to us on event day, just let us know.
Sincerely,
Your very friendly environmental club.

Facts on Glass
Glass that is dumped in the landfills will never decompose.Glass can be used again and again and is 100% recyclable. A 100-watt light bulb can burn for four hours by the energy saved from recycling one glass bottle. Recycling a bottle will cause 50% less water pollution and 20% less air pollution.A new glass food jar contains at least 35% recycled glass.

Green Consumer Day
September 28 Green Consumer Day
The problems of consumerism and its impact on the environment is an area of major concern in today’s world. Awareness building on the importance of reducing, reusing, & recycling should be taken up seriously.
Quote for the day:
The best way to be a green consumer is not to be a consumer at all!
It is easy to get excited about all the new green gadgets and organic products out there. These products may be green, but they will never be as green as the product that isn't made at all, and this is an important thing to keep in mind. The greenest path is to make do with what you have. If you do need something, consider buying used. Giving a product a second life is always a green way to go. When you buy something used, it prevents a new version of it from being made, and a perfectly good one from being wasted. If you simply must buy something new, then by all means, look for green or organic products. Develop a sharp eye for distinguishing legitimately green products from products that are simply "greenwashed."

I found what he/she said is interesting. Even though we may can't stop consuming but we can do it the "green" way. =]

Facts from National Geographic Channel
State of the Earth
Earthquakes

Hope all of you are aware of the situation at hand.
Thank you for reading.
Earthquakes
- A 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit China’s western province of Sichuan leaving 70,000 people dead and nearly 5 million of them homeless.
- Studies show that ground earthquakes may be a result of electrical charges in the atmosphere.
The compression of rocks before an earthquake occurs acts like batteries and produce electricity.
- Half a billion people live near the world’s 1,500 active volcanoes.
Instead of a cone, super volcanoes have a circular caldera where magma and earth have been sucked inward during an explosion.
- On May 2, Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar killing nearly 100,000 people.
Hurricane Ike, the most damaging of the 2008 Atlantic hurricanes, reshaped the coast of Texas, obliterating small islands that once dotted the coastline.
Experts have found that 90 percent of Atlantic hurricanes were preceded by lightning storms over the highland of East Africa.
The changing weather that produces intense lightning in East Africa interrupts the path of trade winds, which may result in hurricanes.
Part of the formation of hurricanes is caused by the rising sea temperature.
- An atoll is a ring of ancient coral reefs that are left behind when an island sinks back into the ocean.
The process of making an atoll can take up to 30 million years, making coral atolls some of the most ancient and rare ecosystems on Earth.
Coral reefs are home to a quarter of the plants and animals in the world’s ocean.
- Locked inside the eons-old permafrost in the Arctic is more carbon dioxide than already exists in the atmosphere.
- Researchers have found that one in four mammals is in danger of extinction--one in seven birds, one-third of amphibians, and 70 percent of plant life is threatened.
In an isolated swamp of the Congo, researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society located a previously unknown population of 125,000 western lowland gorillas, more than tripling the known population.

I don't wanna gross all of you out but..
Take a look at what we have collected from the recycling bins from the classrooms today!
We have coffee dripping inside the recycling bins and our garbage bags!
And it stinks too!
So a fair warning to everyone. Please separate your recyclables properly before simply dumping them into any of the recycling bins. DO YOUR PART!
Yes! I dare you to care! =)
Great job my fellow members. cheers!

3rd meeting
Wow TEC.
What a meeting! Our club has almost 100 members. This is a true 'environmental movement'.
We have the potential to start something great, and really make a difference - Our club will incorporate the idea of 'less talk, more action'.
Some committees have sent me their mailing list and I still need lists from others.
Everything we do in our groups (ideas, dates, etc.) should be recorded and passed on.
Thank you for being a part of this club (and for singing happy bday).
Next meeting is Tuesday, but I hope all of you will try to do a little planning before then.
Cheers.

"Wake Up, Freak Out, Then Get a Grip" - Scary but Excellent Video!
Hello, fellow greenies!
If you follow this link you'll find an excellent video by someone named Leo Murray about what will happen to our planet if we don't take action and move towards fighting climate change. United we stand, divided (or lazy) we fall!
If you want the script for this video, use this link:
http://wakeupfreakout.org/wakeup.html
Happy Watching - and really, freak out, but then get a grip! And share it with anyone else you think needs some shaking into action!

Second Environmental Club Meeting
As the title suggests,we had our second environmental club meeting today in D10.(Is it me or did we have less people today??)
Anyways, we assigned people to activities we wanted accomplished such as
-Reduce Plastic Bags Campaign
-Recycling Program
-Environmental Movie Screenings
-Tree Planting Initiative
-Environment Day and Week
-World Issues Conference Involvement
As of now, I don't think we have a calender of events set yet except for ECA day.
And members are encouraged to take down outdated flyers in all their classes and pass them to Mr. Colin to be recycled into our own flyers, preferably those flyers with the due date of 2008 on them.
And we also gave Miss Nicole a surprise Happy Environmental Birthday song since they were just having a party 2 classes down...
I am currently working on a layout for this blog to make it more "visually" appealing and anyone who wishes to help may do so...
Of course it would be environmentally themed...
I'm guessing that's all for now....
-Melvin-
-Food For Thought
We can vote and not just voting at a voting booth for the next president or a new government.
Anybody of any age can vote, because you vote everyday that you pay for something.
Every time you lay your money down on a counter to buy something, you are saying that,
I approve of this object. I approve of how it was made, the materials that are in it and whats going to happen when I no longer need it and throw it away.
